Our Vision
Educators are innovators.
Healed People, Heal People
We envision a world where human resilience is supported with Human Rights, we work to produce a world where torture is no longer a means for correction, for societies free of torture that protect the dignity of persons deprived of liberty, a community where race and economics are not a deciding factor within the justice system. INC works to making visible the hidden tortures, and work to replace it with restorative alternatives rooted in human dignity. We envision a world that is held to international standards and compliant to the United Nations OPCAT. When a State accedes to or ratifies the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (the UNCAT) it agrees to fight impunity by making torture a crime and investigating and prosecuting allegations of torture; to provide redress to victims, to exclude statements acquired through torture from all proceedings, and to take legislative and other measures to prevent torture, among other things.Until the US complies with this Human Rights oversight need, (INC) will be that voice for the voiceless.
Incarcerated Nation Council’s Vision is a torture free world where the rights and dignity of all persons deprived of liberty are respected.
A world where the prison industrial complex is not a system perpetual punishment but a system of higher education & rehabilitation. our mission is to lead and support endeavor’s to prevent torture and ill-treatment, while educating the world on the conditions of confinement & the collateral consequences of Mass Incarceration in America.
We advocate to local, national, regional, and international bodies to push for change in the punishment system, both as part of our strategic litigation and when developing new standards. Communities of Practice: INC engages groups of NGOs through networks such as the Anti Torture International Council (ATIC)- Anti Torture Initiative. Truah Human Rights Watch, AFSC , and the UN subcommittee against torture we also form a collective national group of survivors creating local Campaigns for Alternatives to Isolated Confinement CAIC, over the past years NYCAIC & NJCAIC has won considerable amounts of changes to human isolation.
